Sankara Jayanti, 02.May.2025
Vande Guru Paramparaam
Sankara Jayanthi is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya, the revered Indian philosopher and theologian who consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism). He is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva and played a major role in reviving Hinduism during a time of cultural and spiritual decline in India. Sankara Jayanthi is observed on Shukla Paksha Panchami in the Hindu month of Vaishakha (April–May), this year it is on May 02, and is especially celebrated in Advaita Vedanta institutions and mathas, especially in Sringeri Sharada Peetham.
In Chennai, Sankara Jayanthi is celebrated with great fervor also at Sankara Gurukulam, 8, 20, CP Ramaswamy St, Abiramapuram.
Adi Shankara established six Mutts(monastic centers) in different parts of India: Sringeri &Kanchi(South), Dwaraka (West), Puri (East), and Jyotirmath/Badrinath (North). Kaladi, His birthplace is included as the 6th Mutt. He is also remembered as Shanmatha Sthapaka for consolidating the six fold worship. Although He lived only for 32 years, His compositions and Vedantic expositions have no equal, such is HIS vast repertorie of work from Ganesha Pancharathnam, Bhaja Govindam to Viveka Choodamani. We bow to this greatest of great Santhanis of Bharat. Jaya Jaya Sankara, Hara Hara Sankara.
