Music Classes in Zurich and Online

Zurich city has a rich musical culture with many local children taking at least one or two musical instrument classes – be it piano, cello, violin, clarinet, French horn etc. It is a common sight seeing kids lugging their musical instrument bags around the city. The Opera House, the various concerts and Fasnacht provide a melodious insight into the musical leanings of this city.

Uma Kumar runs the ‘Ragamalika’ music school in Zurich as well as regular classes through Skype and FaceTime. She is the grand daughter of Sri Sattur AG Subramamanya Iyer and daughter of  Mrs. Lakshmi Sundaram, who is also her Guru. She  has a Masters in Carnatic music and is a performing Carnatic vocalist and an AIR ‘B’ graded artist.

Dharitree Joshi runs the ‘Kalpa Roop Centre for Indian Classical Music’, a music school in Luzerne as well as regular classes online. She is a Hindustani classical vocalist in the Agra-Jaipur style and studied under vocalist, Ms. Kavita Kharwandikar. She is a performing artist and has performed widely in India, UAE and Europe.

Rajasimha Narasimhakumar is a Veena teacher based in Zurich. He hails from Mysore, where he learnt Veena for about 12 years from Vid. Smt. M K Saraswati, who is a direct disciple of Vid. Mysore Doreswamy Iyengar and an AIR A-graded artiste. Rajasimha’s mother Smt. H S Sreelaxmi is also a Veena artist and conducts advanced Veena classes through Skype. Rajasimha can teach Veena from basics to Keertanai level during weekends.

Note: To learn Veena, you must have a Veena at home to practice the lessons. A basic knowledge of Carnatic is helpful but not mandatory.
