Regional Associations Of India

The Indian community in Zurich is home to Indians from many parts of India, it is indeed a microcosm of India. There are many Indian Associations based on region, language, arts etc.  And these are a good place to develop friends, network and celebrate Indian festivals and culture together. The following are some of the Indian associations:

The Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal, formerly Marathi Madal Switzerland is an association for the Marathi Community in Switzerland. They have regular events for Makar Sankranth, Ganesh Utsav, Gudi Padwa, Diwali and other festivals. They also conduct Marathi language classes for children.

The Indian Association Baden has its seat in Baden and was founded in 1969.  They conduct a number of events through the year and welcome both members and non-members to attend their events.

Indian Association of Bern (IAB) founded in 1972 provides a platform to the Indian community in Bern to organize events, gather on festive and other occasions. It currently has over 120 members living in and around Bern.

The Bharatiya Association Berne was founded in July 1996 with the aim of promoting the spirit of companionship and goodwill among its members and fostering contacts with Swiss institutions and culture.

Indian Association Lausanne ( IAL ) was established in 1995 and is dedicated to the Indian community living in Lausanne and other French speaking regions of Switzerland.

The India Club in Liechtenstein e.V. is is a not for profit organization, based in Vaduz, Liechtenstein with the objective of bringing together the diverse cultures of India, the traditional as well as the contemporary, with Liechtenstein and the Rheinthal region.

Based in Wettingen, Aargau, the Indian Association Wettingen conducts a number of events through the year, like the Online Chess championships, Diwali Party and more.

Indian Student Association of Zurich (InSAZ) is a voluntary student association supporting Indian students in Zurich. They conducts a number of events for students through the year, like the Holi, Diwali Party and more.

The Kannada Association in Switzerland is a group for the Kannada speaking community in Switzerland.

The Association runs the “Kannadigas in Switzerland” group on Facebook  and the Yahoo group “Kannadigas-In-Switzerland@yahoogroups.com” .

Keli Swiss Association was started in the late 1990s in Schlieren. They are renowned for their annual Kalamela, a grand event encouraging and promoting Indian Arts and Culture in Switzerland and for their social out-reach activities.

The Swiss Indian Fine Arts Association or SIFAA,  formerly the Indian Music Arts Forum organises regular classical music, dance, arts performances.

The SDH, the Swiss Federation for Hinduism or the Schweizerischer Dachverband für Hinduismus is an umbrella organisation for all temples in Switzerland. They organise various events like the Maha Gayatri Homa on New Year’s eve, Hanuman Chalisa chanting, Maha Rudra Yagana, an annual Diwali concert, talks on Hinduism and more.

The Swiss Natya Sabha is an association of Swiss based artists and supporters of Indian arts. They have regular meetings and workshops through the year.
