On this day, Jagannath – the Lord of the Universe, his brother Balarama and his sister Subhadra bless all visitors with their mercy by allowing them to bathe in public. This tradition has its origins in Jagannath Puri, India, where Krishna has been worshipped in this form for thousands of years. According to the story, Krishna catches a cold after bathing and then has to rest for two weeks. The Lord of the Universe only appears to his devotees again on the Rathayatra, the great chariot festival.
